SATORI AREA RUG

Satori is an area rug by Westhill Interiors, woven from natural highland wool. The name is Japanese for a moment of quiet understanding, and the rug is meant to feel that way in a room: simple, calm, and honest about what it is made of.

Highland wool is finer than ordinary wool, and it is not plentiful. The wool in one rug is about what twenty sheep grow in a lifetime. Its natural crimp makes it springy, so the pile recovers after you walk on it, and the air held in the fibres keeps it warm. Wool also takes in moisture and lets it go again, so the rug stays breathable and does not feel damp. It resists bacteria and dust mites, and it is safe to use on a heated floor.

Each rug is dyed in a single plain colour, so the natural texture of the weave is what you see. That restraint is what makes it look so at home beside solid wood furniture.

The edge is firm and flat, finished so it does not fray, and it wears well over time. At about 8 to 10 mm thick (measured by hand, so allow a small difference), it helps soften sound in a room.

Satori has passed a zero-formaldehyde test, so it suits homes with children, older family members, and pets.

It comes in Ivory, Oatmeal, and Light Grey, as a round, an oval, or a rectangle. The colour does not change the price. The shape and the size do.

Care

• A new wool rug sheds a little. This is normal and eases with use.
• Vacuum once or twice a week, or as needed.
