SHIMA AREA RUG

Shima is a hand woven area rug by Westhill Interiors, made from tropical jute. It comes in two undyed-looking tones, Jute and Coffee Jute, and as a round, an oval, or a rectangle. The fibre is left close to how it grows: natural, a little irregular, and quieter than a dyed rug. That plainness is the point. It belongs with wood furniture more than with a matched set.

There is no formaldehyde in the material. The surface is water repellent, so a spill beads instead of soaking in, and you wipe it rather than wash it. It is comfortable underfoot for older people, children, and pets. The fibre also holds up to claws, which is why it works in a home with cats.

Care

• Wipe spills. Do not wash or soak the rug.
• A robot vacuum or a regular vacuum is fine.
• A professional no-wash cleaner, or a cleaner made for upholstery, can be used when it needs more than a wipe.
